In its recent annual meeting, the General Assembly of ECCOMAS has elected Prof. Ferdinando Auricchio as the new president of the association. Ferdinando Auricchio is professor of Solid and Structural Mechanics at the University of Pavia in Italy. He is a recipient of the ECCOMAS Euler Medal (2016) and of the IACM Fellow Award (2012). From 2013 to 2019, he served as Vice-President of ECCOMAS. In 2018 he was appointed as a member of Accademia dei XL, the Italian National Academy of Science.
Professor Auricchio’s major research interests are numerical schemes (with a particular attention to innovative materials), simulation tools to support medical decisions, and more recently everything that is related to additive manufacturing. He is the founder of an extensive 3D-printing lab, exploring new materials, new printing technologies, new applications, ranging from civil engineering 3D printed concrete beams and metal mechanical parts to bio-manufacturing. He is co-founder of two university spin-offs and a holder of 6 patents.
The presidency of Ferdinando Auricchio will start in 2021. Until that time he will hold the position of president elect in the ECCOMAS Executive Committee.
