ECCOMAS AWARD FOR THE BEST Ph.D THESES OF 2010 ON COMPUTATIONAL METHODS IN APPLIED SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING
The meeting of the Evaluation Committee for the ECCOMAS award for the best PhD theses 2010 was held on April 8th, 2011 at CIMNE, Barcelona. As an answer to the call for tender, the ECCOMAS member associations nominated 18 theses. The Evaluation Committee was composed by N.E. Wiberg (chairman), B. Koren, J. Eberhardsteiner, P.-H.. Maire and P. Díez (secretary).
After a detailed discussion, a voting process was held in two phases. First, after a secret voting the number of thesis was reduced from 18 to 8. Then the committee ranked the 8 theses evaluating the different aspects of each and unanimously agreed on selecting 2 out of these 8 theses as the winners.
The two winners are:
- Dr. Damien Kah (France) for the thesis “Taking into account polydispersity in the framework of a coupled Euler-Lagrange approach for the modeling of liquid fuel injection in internal combustion engines“
- Dr. Frans Van der Meer (Netherlands) for the thesis “Computational Modeling of Failure in Composite Materials“
These theses are outstanding works in Computational Methods combining excellent knowledge of both theory and practice.
All nominees will be recognized by a special diploma that will be sent directly to the candidate.
The list of finalists selected by the local-regional ECCOMAS Association is the following:
