ECCOMAS AWARDEES 2026

ECCOMAS proudly announces that the recipients of the ECCOMAS Medals, the ECCOMAS Young Investigator Awards, and the inaugural ECCOMAS Mentor Award 2026 have been selected.

Nominations for the ECCOMAS awards are submitted by members of the ECCOMAS community. The final selection is carried out by an independent awards committees assembled specifically for this purpose, comprising the previous awardees of the ECCOMAS medals, the previous recipients of the young investigator awards, and representatives of the ECCOMAS technical committees.

The ECCOMAS Euler medal has been awarded to Prof. Ole Sigmund (Technical University of Denmark, Denmark). The Euler Medal is awarded for outstanding and sustained contributions to the area of computational solid and structural mechanics.

After extensive discussion, the awards committee decided to withhold The ECCOMAS Prandtl medal awarded for outstanding and sustained contributions to the area of computational fluid dynamics. The committee felt that the number of nominations received for this edition was insufficient to allow the broad comparative assessment that the distinction merits.

The ECCOMAS Olgierd Cecil Zienkiewicz Young-investigator award has been awarded to Prof. Matthias Faes (Technical University of Dortmund, Germany). The Olgierd Cecil Zienkiewicz award is awarded to young researchers with outstanding contributions in the field of Computational Engineering Sciences.

The ECCOMAS Jacques-Louis Lions Young-investigator award has been awarded to Prof. Jezabel Curbelo (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain). The Jacques-Louis Lions award is awarded to young researchers with outstanding contributions in the field of Computational Mathematics.

The ECCOMAS Mentor Award has been awarded to Prof. Peter Wriggers (Leibniz University Hannover, Germany) The ECCOMAS Mentor Award celebrates those who go beyond formal teaching to actively shape the careers and aspirations of their mentees. It honours individuals who invest their time and energy in fostering an inclusive, supportive, and empowering research environment, guiding young scientists at all stages of their careers.

The ECCOMAS Young Investigators Grant 2026 has been awarded to Dr. Anna Skorupa (Silesian University of Technology, Poland) and her project entitled “Mathematical and Numerical Modeling of Viscoelastic Behavior in Porous Materials”. The EYIC grant is dedicated to empowering young researchers in the fields of computational mechanics and applied mathematics, providing them with the support needed to kickstart their research careers.

We cordially congratulate the awardees with the granted recognition of their achievements!
